Sugar
Tereos and PureCircle have created Tereos Pure¬Circle Solutions, a joint venture for marketing the stevia extracts produced by PureCircle on their own or combined with sugar. With this partnership, the two firms will be able to meet the needs of the various agrifood industries for developing low-calorie products.
Bioethanol
Tereos is committed to research and development of bioethanol for the future through multiple projects:
- Futurol, brings together eleven French specialists in the fields of science, finance and industry working towards one goal: development of a complete, next generation production process for bioethanol from cellulose biomass.
- Deinol, in association with BENP Lillebonne – a Tereos subsidiary specialising in bioethanol production from cereals – run by the company Deinove. By 2014, this project aims to optimise production of bioethanol at existing sites through development of bacteria that can digest bran via fermentation.
- Biocore, in partnership with SYRAL - a Tereos subsidiary specialised in the transformation of cereals. Managed by Inra, this project aims to develop new forms of bioethanol with a view to transforming cellulose and increasing the value of hemicellulose.
- An agreement between Guarani – Brazilian subsidiary of Tereos - and Amyris, an American company dedicated to developing renewable and sustainable energy solutions, has been signed. The aim is to asses the profitability of developing technology to produce a diesel fuel made from juice, molasses and cane sugar or sugar from sugar beet.
Starch
Tereos Syral, a Tereos subsidiary, has a dynamic research and development policy focused on supplying the products and services best suited to current demand and future markets.
The innovation teams at Tereos Syral work closely with customers to identify their needs and meet them quickly. This flexibility and responsive attitude are what makes Tereos Syral stand out from competitors. In this way, the applied science laboratory in Marckolsheim (France) is involved in part of the product development process for customers.
Co-products
In 2006, as soon as the Origny distillery started up, the Danisco group called on Tereos to set up a project for extracting betaine from the distillery stillage. This project was finalized in October 2010. Danisco is going to build a betaine extraction unit at the Origny site, and Tereos France will be responsible for running it from spring 2012. The value-adding with betaine represents double the value added with agricultural stillage.
Sugarcane
Tereos is undertaking research on the transformation and use of can sugar on Réunion Island. Tereos Océan Indien is a partner of eRcane, a research centre working on breeding new varieties of cane sugar, as well as related industrial processes, biorefining and cultivation techniques.
